SETTLING IN POLICY
It is our policy at Discoveries to allow each child sufficient time to settle in to their new environment. This helps to make the transition as smooth as possible for both child and parent.
We recommend a settling in period of one week, this may vary from child to child as some children become accustomed to their new environment within a matter of days, for others it may take a little longer to find their feet!
We begin on Day One with the arrival of you and your child. You both spend the next hour in the room with the staff and other children becoming familiar with the new surroundings and having a chat about his/her likes and dislikes, what their typical daily routine would be like and all the while allowing your child to soak up the atmosphere.
On Day Two you would both arrive as the day before and spend the next half hour chatting to staff and so on. At this point we like to see how your child would fare if you were to leave for a period of 15-20 minutes.
Day Three to Day Five: we are aiming to build up the amount of time your child spends in the crèche without you and reduce the hand over time to 5-10 minutes. We can do this gradually over the few days and so by Day Five your child will hopefully be ready to spend a period of two to three hours with their new friends!
